JAMPRO and JMEA take Brand Jamaica to Trinidad and Tobago
As part of the Agency’s strategy to develop Jamaican exporters and increase export to regional markets, JAMPRO, Jamaica’s trade and investment promotions agency, and the Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association (JMEA), are leading 7 companies on an export promotion mission to Trinidad and Tobago. The mission commenced on July 1, 2019.
The export promotion mission will give companies the opportunity to promote Brand Jamaica in the twin-island state, and increase the export of Jamaican products to regional markets. The companies will have scheduled business meetings with buyers to promote their products, execute trade visits to key retail outlets, and have key discussions with private and public sector partners to garner market intelligence.
On July 4, the companies will also participate in Trinidad and Tobago’s Trade and Investment Convention, which is a business-to-business event for manufacturers, service providers, buyers, distributors, financial institutions and investors to meet and conduct business. The overall mission supports JAMPRO’s goal of increasing exports to CARICOM countries, which the Agency sees as a market with large potential.
Manager of Agribusiness at JAMPRO, Marlene Porter, said that the Agency is working with Trinidadian organisations to increase exports to that country. In 2017, JAMPRO took 11 companies to the nation’s capital, Port of Spain, as part of its Caribbean Market Mission. Earlier this year, a Trinidadian delegation visited Jamaica to forge and strengthen business relationships between manufacturing companies in Trinidad and Jamaica. Ms Porter said JAMPRO was therefore focused on increasing business between the islands.
“The Caribbean region is a key target market of interest as the people of this region share similar tastes and consumption patterns. We have been working with Trinidad and Tobago and other countries in the region to build business relationships, so we are looking forward to strengthening these bonds not only between government agencies, but between Trinidadian and Jamaican companies to increase trade. We have made significant steps forward, and we look forward to more partnerships between Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago in business and other relations,” Ms Porter said.
The delegation includes the following companies : Caribbean Cream Limited/Kremi, Crafton Holdings Limited, Isratech Jamaica Limited, Supreme Chemicals, Sankhard Limited, Seprod Limited, and Wisynco Group Limited. The JMEA is represented by Richard Pandohie, President, and D’Jamila Ward, Export Manager.
